HONOLULU — After lounging in the Honolulu Zoo for more than 60 years, Goliath, the oldest alligator in captivity has died.
Hawaii News Now reports that Goliath died Wednesday of what appears to be liver failure.
Goliath came to the zoo in 1953 from San Antonio. At the time he was 10 feet long and at least 20 years old. That makes him more than 80 by the time he died, breaking global zoo records.
The Honolulu Zoo has one remaining alligator, a male named Bob.
